Lynn University Womens Soccer vs Saint Leo, Boca Raton, FL, October 7, 2006, 3pm
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University women's soccer team's two-game winning streak was snapped by a 2-0 loss to #25 Saint Leo on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights drop to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo capitalized when they had opportunities and we did not," said head coach Rocky Orezzoli. "I give them credit, their defense did a great job of keeping us from shooting. I thought our defense did a good job, except where they had two minor breakdowns that ended up being goals. This was a tough one to lose but it doesn't get any easier with a game against Nova Southeastern and Eckerd next week." A back and forth contest opened up for Saint Leo (9-2-1, 4-2) in the 24th minute. Hannah Beard beat Megan Walsh on back line and sent a low cross through the Knights defense. Bridget Godwin one-time the pass past Jennifer Shropshire to give SLU a 1-0 lead. Beard tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the year with a nifty set by Jennifer O'Connor. The two connected on a give a go outside the 18-yard box where O'Connor finally crossed to the top of the 18-yard box. Beard one-touched the pass and fired a low shot to the far post to put the Lions up for good. Lynn was outshot 15-5 and surrendered 11 corner kicks in the match. Shropshire managed three saves before giving way to Natalie Feller with 23 minutes remaining. Lauren Hudson stopped three shots for the Lions.
