Lynn University Soccer vs. New York Tech, September 18, 2005, 4pm, Boca Raton, Florida
BOCA RATON, Fla. Lynn Universitys mens soccer team defeated its second ranked opponent in three games, riding Lee Paul Scroggins to a 3-0 victory against no. 14 New York Tech on Sunday afternoon. Scroggins scored two goals, including the game-winner, for his second consecutive multi-goal game and third this season. The Knights defensive unit of Leon Jackson, Nano Short, Courtney Rimmer and Lee Porter held the Bears to just one shot on goal. LU improves to 5-0-0 overall. Lee Paul [Scroggins] had a great day and he is one of those players that you want to take into big games and expect to perform well. Scroggins opened up the Knights attack just six minutes into the game. Carl Wallace tracked down a long cross near the right corner and sent a nice cross to the far post. Chris Knox made a one-touch pass to the top of the box where the Bears (5-2-0) failed to account for the trailing shooter. The junior midfielder lined up his shot and scored from just outside the 18-yard box to give LU a 1-0 lead. On an identical play 10 minutes later, Kenneth Viquez brought down a cross from the right corner, juked his man and dropped a pass to the top of the box. Again, NYIT failed to cover the trailing Jean Alexander as the freshman fired a shot to right corner of the net to put the Knights up 2-0. A demoralized New York Tech team saw its defense break down one final time as the first half wound down. Scroggins broke free on a Richard Legg corner kick and headed the ball past the keeper at the near post, securing the Knights victory. The Blue and White defense played a spectacular game, holding NYIT to only one shot on goal.
