Lynn University Soccer vs Barry University November 6, 2005, Boca Raton, Florida, 1:00 pm
BOCA RATON, Fla. Lynn University womens soccer team lost an emotional contest to Barry University 1-0 in overtime on the Fighting Knights senior day. Jennifer Shropshire saved a career-high 15 shots as the Blue and White said goodbye to seven seniors. Lynn closes out the season 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Lynn was down to 14 players but we had a simple game plan that our players stuck to well, said head coach Rocky Orezzoli. We did a good job of keeping their big time chances to a minimum, Jen Shropshire played a great game and we countered and created chances of our own. I give credit to Barry to sticking it out and getting the finish but I also have to give credit to our kids for playing extremely hard and giving themselves chances to pull out the win. Shropshire terrorized the Bucs (13-2-1, 7-1-0) all second half, recording 10 saves and holding the SSCs second leading offense to zero goals. But just two and a half minutes into overtime, Emelie Karlsson collected a pass from Ulla Matikainen outside the 18-yard box, dribbled through the Knights defense and slipped her shot just under Shropshire for the game-winning goal. Nine different Knights players set personal career records this season while Shropshires 61 saves this season is the fifth most in program history.
