FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Calvin Dawson ran for a game-high 115 yards, the last coming on a 6-yard touchdown run with 1:23 remaining that lifted Louisiana-Monroe to a 28-21 win over Florida Atlantic in the Owls first-ever Sun Belt Conference game. Florida Atlantic was driving near midfield with about 2 minutes remaining, before Louisiana-Monroe cornerback Chaz Williams stripped the ball out of receiver Thomas Parker's hands and returned it 42 yards. Dawson scored two plays later for the Indians (1-3, 1-0). Steven Jyles completed 19 of 31 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, plus ran for another score for Louisiana-Monroe. Jyles was intercepted three times, as was Florida Atlantic quarterback Danny Embick, and each team had four turnovers in the game. Jyles 2-yard run gave Louisiana-Monroe a 21-14 fourth-quarter lead, but Embick took the Owls on a nine-play, 80-yard drive that tied the game 3 1/2 minutes later. Embick - who threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns, plus rushed for 72 yards - had a crucial 29-yard run during the drive, which was capped by his 16-yard scoring pass to Dominik Walker. Kris Bartels had a 39-yard interception return to score shortly after kickoff for FAU (0-4, 0-1), part of a sloppy beginning - the teams had three turnovers, two by Louisiana-Monroe, in the game's first 84 seconds.
