FAU Football's 1st Annual Bonfire, Kick-Off of the 2008 Football season, April 24th, 7:30pm
BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's football team hosted it annual spring game, 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19th. The team will then play its final scrimmage of the Spring season on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the "Reach Higher, Ring of Fire" pep rally and bonfire at 7:30 p.m. The scrimmage took place at the Tom Oxley Athletic Center practice football fields. The pep rally and bonfire was held at the future site of the FAU football stadium, on the corner of Lee Street and Palm Beach Avenue. "This event will finally provide closure to the celebrations of 2007 and ignite the flames for the 2008 squad," said Howard Schnellenberger, FAU's head football coach. "We are leaving the 2007 championship season and beginning 2008 with the knowledge that like the fire, we need to reach higher if we want to continue our determination to be the nation's best." Aside from the 2008 football season, the pep rally and bonfire also celebrated the future on-campus football stadium planned to open September 11, 2010. The FAU cheerleaders, dance team and Owsley the Mascot were in attendance. The event was free and open to the public.
